TAKE JOY!
The Ministry of Music at Our Lady of La Salette
The joy of music is God’s special gift to humankind going back to biblical times.
The Bible tells about “those whom David set over the service in song in the house of the Lord,” and says that “they ministered before the dwelling place of the tabernacle of the congregation with singing.”
1 Chronicles 6: 31, 32
In the days of King David then, choirs were established to serve their church by expressing the joy, praise, and thankfulness to the people of God. This purpose has never changed!
This is not just passive, half-way singing, but an exhilarating all out way for you to serve God through song – with “all my heart” and being “glad and filled with joy.” [Psalm 9: 1, 2]
– putting forth all that is within you to give glory to God!
Now is the time to take advantage of the exciting opportunity to dedicate and develop your talent to serve your church through the Ministry of Music.
Won’t you respond to God’s invitation to serve as a joyful, missionary disciple through the ministry of music this year?
Yours Faithfully,
The Ministry of Music
“Count it all joy!”
James 1: 2
THE CHOIRS OF LA SALETTE
THE PARISH CHOIR is a group of dedicated volunteer singers who provide musical leadership for congregational singing in the worship of the church. The Choir also sings anthems and other special musical offerings to beautify and enhance the worship experience. The Choir is open to parishioners of High School age and over. The Choir primarily sings for the 9:30a.m. Sunday Eucharist and other Masses and Occasional Services throughout the year. Practices take place Thursday evenings at 7:30p.m. from September through Pentecost Sunday. While the ability to read music notation is helpful, it is not a requirement to join.
FUNERAL VIGIL MUSIC MINISTRY is offered for those who wish to sing for Vigil Services at local funeral homes when the need arises. This ministry is ideal for those who would like to participate in the music program but for whatever reason can not commit to the nine month choir season. Contact Mrs. Laura Mastracci through the parish office for further details.
THE SCHOLA CANTORUM or “School for Singers” is designed for parishioners interested in training to become Cantors (Song Leaders) at our worship celebrations. The Cantors lead in the singing of the Psalms and encourage the congregation’s musical participation at Mass in the absence of the choir. The primary role of the Cantor is to lead and support the congregation's worship through singing; not to provide a musical performance. Membership in the Parish Choir is highly encouraged. Please contact Mr. Rogers to arrange for an interview and audition.
INSTRUMENTALISTS
If you are an accomplished musician, High School age and older, you are welcome to share your talent with us. Brass, woodwind, string and percussion players are encouraged to contact Mr. Rogers.
THE ART AND ENVIRONMENT COMMITTEE is charged with providing suitable décor in the church for the Liturgical Year with particular emphasis on the Advent/Christmas and Lent/ Easter seasons. Creative persons including artists, designers and florists are encouraged to share their talents. Contact Mr. Rogers.
